What Students Really Need to Hear

I pray I am this awesome of a teacher!

Chase Mielke

It’s 4 a.m.  I’ve struggled for the last hour to go to sleep.  But, I can’t.  Yet again, I am tossing and turning, unable to shut down my brain.  Why?  Because I am stressed about my students.  Really stressed.  I’m so stressed that I can only think to write down what I really want to say — the real truth I’ve been needing to say — and vow to myself that I will let my students hear what I really think tomorrow.

This is what students really need to hear:

First, you need to know right now that I care about you. In fact, I care about you more than you may care about yourself.  And I care not just about your grades or your test scores, but about you as a person. And, because I care, I need to be honest with you. Do I have permission to be…

Beach Bunny Equals Snow Bunny?!?!?

Well, winter storm Janus was a total blast! It was my first time to visit the beach and it have more SNOW than SAND visible.
I LOVED IT!
We started with a much needed coffee to warm up our insides before the real adventure started!

The city did a wonderful job clearing the highway (4 inches of snow is a big deal for this resort city).

Atlantic Avenue was way too much fun in the big ole truck. I would never have been a passenger on a trek like this in a non 4X4 vehicle.
Insert disclaimer here: Don’t try this at home!

We decided to eat lunch at one of the Oceanfront restaurants. What a view!

We were able to score TWO days off of school! WOOT WOOT

I love the fact that the Beach Bunnies turned into Snow Bunnies. Well, at least for two days.

How is your winter going?

The Road In Front Of You

20140201-083408.jpg

When looking at the road in front of you and the road behind you what is really the difference?

Experience? Time?

The road that’s behind you was, at one point, in front of you. The fear, the excitement, and the trepidation of traveling the road in front of you is always with you. There’s always a road in front of you but how you travel that road is up to you. Are you blindly going to travel on ice or are you going to ask your heavenly father for help and guidance? I choose asking for help and guidance.

Why blindly travel down the road that you don’t know what’s at the end when you can ask for help and guidance from your heavenly father who knows exactly what is at the end of that road for you.

Take that step of faith! Trust God! He will never fail you! He will never lead you astray!

RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

It’s that time of the month again… a full moon!

Being in education I could have told you it was coming long before looking at the calendar to confirm my fate.  No, I’m not some person who believes in the mysteries and scary things that happen during a full moon. There is, however, something about the gravitational pull when the moon is full that effects people.

It seems to work like this……                                                                                                                                                                                     *It pulls out the characteristics that are lest desirable in students.                                                                                                           *It pulls out the characteristics that are never desirable in teachers.

Truer words have never been spoken!

The gravitational pull seems to suck out and bring to the top such characteristics in students that make you question if using rubber cement to glue them to their seat is acceptable behavior. Or if using colorful and printed duck tape over their mouths would be as frowned upon as just using the silver. There may even be thoughts of putting a salt lick up in a central location. It’s the time of month that makes you want to buy TWO jars of vodka spaghetti sauce instead of one.

Just to make sure you guys know… NONE of the above is ever called for or acceptable behavior (well, the spaghetti sauce is ok). That is, unless, there is a full moon on a party day that is on a half day of school before any long break. Then, it’s every man for himself.

Just sayin’
